The MLK Day auction at The Meadowlands was a looooong day, but
our persistence paid off with the purchase of ROCKFORD near the
end of the sale.
ROCKFORD is a 4 year old pacing
gelding by top mid-west sire KEYSTONE RAIDER. This guy was
a consistent earner all over Michigan, Indiana and Kentucky last
year despite their tiny purses. In his first 2010 start at
The Meadowlands, ROCKFORD he was a fast closing 3rd in a 4 year
old $25,000 claimer!
As a son of KEYSTONE RAIDER, we are looking for ROCKFORD to
really blossom as he matures just like a long list of his other
offspring such as Millionaires RAIR EARTH ($1,695,918
1:48.2s) and SPECIAL REPORT ($1,408,537 1:48.4).
KEYSTONE RAIDER has produced offspring with earnings of almost
$62 million with very little 2 and 3 year old stakes earners
(due to him standing in Michigan where the stakes program is
pretty small).
Mark
Kesmodel will be training ROCKFORD. We haven't had one in
the "Koz" barn for far too long, and couldn't be happier to be
back! Mark is a one of the very best conditioners of
overnight horses in the game and among the leading trainers at
The Meadowlands. Mark inspected ROCKFORD at the sale and
spoke at length with his former trainer and thinks our new
purchase will be a very good fit at The Meadowlands.
ROCKFORD is a big horse with a big stretch kick and should
really benefit from racing on the big track at The Meadowlands.
He'll start out in one of the 4 year old events on their
condition sheets, and we'll keep an eye on entering him in the
Art Unger Late Closer there this March.
